Sailboats

The sailing vessel Mistress is a 42′ Hallberg-Rassy, known far and wide for its sturdy construction, superb craftsmanship, and signature seaworthiness. Mistress is designed to carry 10 passengers, is easy to handle, and globally respected for its elegant lines and spirited performance.  It is a comfortable sailboat enjoyed by young children to folks in their 90s.

Mistress sleeps 7 people and has all the comforts of home.  Very comfortable both below and above deck.  There is a heater that keeps the boat warm when needed.  Pictures of her are shown in the Photo Gallery below and throughout this website.

The sailing vessel Astraea is a 40′ OC Hinckley. With a family tradition of quality boat building behind him and a standard of “cruising perfection” in mind, Hank Hinckley designed the OC 40 as the first in a series of yachts to be built by his company in Bar Harbor, Maine.

The OC 40 was conceived and designed as a 40 foot cruising yacht to be easily handled by two people.  Pictures of her are shown in the Astraea Photo Gallery below.

Fishing Boats

The F/V Miss Megan II is a 31′ custom built charter boat.

She is wide, stable, and fast! With a 450HP cat diesel engine, this vessel moves easily and comfortably in any sea condition. She has seating for up to six adults inside her well-appointed cabin.

Bring along your favorite mobile devices and plug it into our high-end stereo. For the ladies there is a toilet, privately located below decks.

Pan-Sea-Ya is a 27′ Grady White center console with Twin 150 Yamaha outboards. There is a private toilet located below decks.

Used for fly fishing and light tackle on the Saco River is the sleek, quiet and comfortable 20′ Lund Alaskan center console.

Meet The Crew

The Captains

Captain Bob started sailing as a young boy in 1972 in Barnegat Bay on the New Jersey shore. Bob got to know the stunning Maine coast working as part of the deck crews aboard several Maine Schooners including the Angelique, Appledore, Mary Day and Surprise. Bob has chartered a significant number of sailboats on the Maine coast.

Captain Abby’s love of sailing began in college when she took a nine week semester at sea sailing around the Caribbean and up the east coast aboard The Spirit of Massachusetts. Abby and Bob have taken many sailing courses together with the highlight being an offshore sailing training program in 2016 for some 1,600 miles from Svalbard to Iceland in the Norwegian sea aboard Mahina Tiare III a Hallberg-Rassy 45′ sloop.

Abby and Bob are both U.S. Coast Guard Master’s License Captains with towing and sailing auxiliary endorsements . They have owned and sailed Mistress since 2014. They consider it their calling and deep joy to be able to share their boat and sailing experiences with all who come aboard.

Captain Sally Tinkham holds her USCG 50 Ton Master’s License with both sailing and towing endorsements.  She absolutely loves to bring her love of sailing to our guests.

She started sailing at the age of 14 on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. At 16 she became a US Sailing Instructor and enjoys teaching children and adults the excitement of learning to sail.

Captain Jonathan Boyd grew up sailing in the Finger Lakes of New York starting in the early 1980s. He then took on a professional career in opera and has since been traveling the world singing. His sailing passion remained steadfast and in 2001 gained his first sailing certification while sailing a 40-foot Morgan in Sarasota Bay, Florida.

Since then Jonathan spent time racing and cruising on various sized sail vessels both on the Hudson River in NY and then on the North and South shores of Long Island, NY. Shortly after moving to Maine he obtained his US Coast Guard Master license with towing and sailing auxiliary endorsements. Jonathan has been the captain aboard Mistress and Astraea and continues to race and do deliveries when the opportunity allows.

Most recently he has completed the Monhegan Island race and delivered an 88-foot Ferretti motor yacht. Jonathan looks forward to meeting you and with the right request you might even hear him sing an aria while you are aboard. Check out Jonathan’s opera career website.

Captain Shawn Tibbetts of our Authentic Maine Lobstering Experience has been an avid outdoorsman since birth.

Growing up in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire and Western Maine help to full his love of the outdoors. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps, upon returning to civilian life, he began his charter fishing business in Saco, ME.

Captain Shawn spends the offseason hunting and driving commercial trucks. He holds a U.S.C.G. 100 Ton Masters License, and is a registered Maine Guide

Captain Robin Thayer is a native Mainer who has been guiding professionally since 1995. She is a Master Maine Guide, Licensed NH fishing guide, as well as a USCG 25 Ton Master Captain.

Capt. Robin is one of the few female charter captains operating on the coastal waters of Southern Maine.

You will find Captain Robin to be pleasant, patient and accommodating to make your time on the water a great Maine experience.

The Co-Captains

Growing up in nearby Wells, Ben has been sailing with Captain Bob aboard the Mistress for nearly ten years.

Ben’s storytelling can make any sail entertaining and immersive to what life was like for the early settlers of the area and the lighthouse keepers of Wood Island. 

During the off season Ben is a social studies teacher at All Saints in Bangor.

Keith’s love of boats came as a surprise and we are delighted his love of boating has only grown. His sailing skills provide each guest with a sense of confidence and comfort.

When he is not sailing he works as a rigger and finisher at Rumery’s Boat Yard in Biddeford.

Lucy began crewing with us in 2023 fulfilling a life long dream.  Her delightful humor, easy laugh and love of people will make you feel right at home.

Lucy has been a long time resident of Saco and knows all the best places to visit, work, eat and enjoy.
